Finer liberation sizes together with decreasing ore grades pose challenges to grinding and especially ﬁne grinding technology. Fine grinding is one of the most energy-intensive processes within the minerals industry. Increasing energy prices are forcing mill operators to decrease their operational expenditures. This rough environment triggered the development of an optimised ﬁne grinding mill which meets the toughest targets in terms of energy efﬁciency, lifetime, downtimes and maintenance costs.
The CEMTEC Attrition Mill (CATT mill®) was developed to maximise the energy transfer from the machine to the material. Discrete element simulations (DEM), which were conﬁrmed by semi-industrial test trials, paved the way to an optimised design of the rotating stirrer and counter discs / pins.
The CEMTEC Attrition Mill has a vertical orientation and is intended for wet processes. The mill body consists of a shell equipped with internals (counter discs/pins) and an agitator shaft of varying geometries (discs, pins) chosen to match the customer’s speciﬁc needs. Feed slurry is pumped from the bottom and leaves the mill by means of overﬂow at the top, which is exposed to the atmosphere. A classiﬁcation stage with hydro cyclones may be used before or after the grinding process to reach the ﬁnal product quality.
Mill sizes up to 1,500 kW are available.
